Writing Center Consultants
Our consultants are part time English faculty and graduate students enrolled in the Master’s in English program. They can help students with academic, professional and personal writing: reports, research papers, business letters, resumes, etc., as well as help students develop effective strategies for time management, reading, notetaking, and test taking. An appointment is necessary. Some same day walk-ins may be available depending on appointment cancellations.
Freshman Composition Writing Lab
The tutors are undergraduate and graduate students from all University disciplines. They are available to help students enrolled in 113, 114 or 115 classes in Asian American Studies, Chicana/o Studies, English or Pan African Studies, as well as to help students enrolled in University 100. In addition to helping students with their writing process, tutors can help students develop effective study strategies. The Lab operates on a walk-in and appointment basis. The Writing Lab
Writing Workshop for Practical Writing Skills
This is a six-week workshop designed specificall for non-native speakers of English seeking to improve their college-level writing skills. Students will learn to recognize assignment requirements, organize their writing into the appropriate format, and use an American academic style and tone. The workshop will also focus on sentence and paragraph structure, word choice, vocabulary, and common grammatical errors. Participants are encouraged to bring their university writing assignments to the workshop in order to practice their new skill.
